How Blue is Your Mansion? Shoe Designer Donald Pliner's Star Island Home Remains on the Market

Back in February 2011, popular shoe designer Donald Pliner, best known for his animal print and western-influenced  designs, and his wife, Lisa, placed their Star Island mansion on the market for $24,000,000.  The 4 bedroom 8 1/2 bath home built in 2000 has 10,160 square feet.  Months later, the bold blue property at 29 Star Island Drive remained unsold, so the Pliners, in an apparent bid to change their fate, changed real estate agents and priced the house to sell at $19,999,000.

The Pliners paid $11.8 million for the property in Oct. 2004.  The home is described as a two-storied statement of Moorish architecture with a salt water pool facing the Bay, 100 feet of waterfront and private boat and jet ski docks.  But perhaps the most distinctive things about the mansion are its strikingly blue exterior and its Southwestern, African, and Balinese-influenced decor, complete with hand-painted murals.

In October, Lisa Pliner hosted a luncheon at the mansion for Emilio Pucci's new fragrance, Miss Pucci Intense, proving that Miami's sluggish real estate market has not dampened their use and enjoyment of the blue castle.
